On behalf of Obton, we are seeking a Lead Project Development Manager to drive their greenfield development projects in Germany. This position offers a unique opportunity to join a dynamic Energy Storage & Power Portfolio Management team within a forward-thinking solar PV company.



As the Lead Project Development Manager, you will be responsible for several clearly defined areas, which you are expected to manage independently. This role involves driving greenfield development projects of Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in Germany. 


Primary tasks:

  • Develop market strategy and plans for the development of greenfield projects in Germany
  • Build local networks and identify project opportunities in collaboration with local partners and scouts
  • Establish and manage a local organization for greenfield development in accordance with the business plan
  • Develop and implement Obton’s country-specific development process (stage/gate) for greenfield PV and BESS projects in Germany
  • Prepare business cases for greenfield projects
  • Secure land rights and manage the permit and planning process
  • Optimize models used in project calculations
  • Select and manage relationships with lawyers and other consultants supporting development
  • Serve as the point of contact for interaction with Obton HQ and tech support for local development
  • Act, cooperate, and negotiate with banks towards financial close
  • Update and report on the German project pipeline

The position can be based in Obton’s German offices in Hamburg, Berlin or Gelsenkirchen, with the possibility of working from home 1-2 days per week. 



Independent and Solution-Oriented Professional

To be considered for the role of Lead Project Development Manager at Obton, you must possess proven experience in project management, particularly in greenfield development projects of Photovoltaic, Battery Energy Storage Systems, or Wind. Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences, including government entities, landowners, and financial institutions. Fluency in both English and German is required.

To succeed in this role, it is crucial that you thrive with a wide range of diverse tasks and possess strong leadership capabilities. You will quickly take lead in building the German development team and have approximately 3-4 employees. Additionally, the role includes a competitive bonus related to origination and development of PV and BESS.
