On behalf of Obton, we are seeking a forward-thinking Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO) to join a strategically important and newly established department, reporting directly to the CEO. This high-impact role offers a unique opportunity to shape both the function and its long-term influence on the business. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the CBDO will play a central role in driving growth, innovation, and value creation across Obton’s European platform.
The CBDO will lead the development of a large-scale solar portfolio across Europe and drive the expansion of Obton’s Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) pipeline. With a strong grasp of the renewable energy value chain, the ideal candidate will unlock value during the development phase and guide a high-performing team across key European markets.
In addition to overseeing project strategy and execution, the CBDO will be responsible for Obton’s Energy Management department, which requires expertise in energy markets, trading schemes, and offtake agreements. A holistic understanding of future energy systems and the role of solar, wind, and storage technologies is essential. The role also demands a strategic mindset, with a focus on market insights, risk mitigation, and optimizing project bankability and financing structures to meet the company’s long-term objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Optimizing Obton’s project portfolio across geographies to generate healthy returns in an ever-changing market environment
- Drive Market Analysis and strategy in a structured way to support decision-making
- Being an integral part of the company’s leadership team
- Leading and supporting country managers to reach targets and deliver de-risked projects of high quality with healthy returns
- Supporting and driving business and capability development
- Ensuring proper energy and offtake management, including value-maximization of Battery Energy Storage Assets in operation.
This position is based at Obton’s headquarters in Aarhus, Denmark, and will require approximately 30% travel.
Experienced Professional with a Proven C-Level Track Record
You bring more than 10 years of experience within the energy sector, backed by a strong track record in business development and a background rooted in either commercial or technical disciplines. You may have built your expertise in a top-tier consulting firm advising the energy space, a renewable energy developer, or within a utility or energy trading environment.
At this stage of your career, you’ve likely held mid- to senior-level positions, demonstrated leadership, and operated at C-level or in similarly strategic roles. You have a solid understanding of energy markets, commercial frameworks, and regulatory landscapes, and the ability to translate that insight into a robust pipeline of development opportunities.
You make sharp, well-informed decisions and have experience developing data-driven investment proposals. While a degree in economics, engineering, finance, or a related field is preferred, your hands-on experience and leadership maturity carry greater weight than your formal education.
